As The Australian continues to bang the drum over Labor Senator Sam Dastyari’s (legal) donation scandal and broader issues on foreign donations, it was interesting to see the national broadsheet follow BuzzFeed‘s revelation yesterday that Attorney-General George Brandis had given a $300,000-a-year job on the Administrative Appeals Tribunal to an LNP donor and a lawyer who had represented his son in a court appearance over the alleged theft of council bikes when Simon Brandis was 18 in 2014.

The Australian in the past has derided BuzzFeed as “listicle journalism” and a gossip site, but this time it credited BuzzFeed with breaking the story. Will the publication follow the story with the same energy with which it has pursued Dastyari?
