The case for Medicare Locals: treat patients at GPs, not hospitals

Without an effective approach to the prevention and management of chronic disease in the community we will continue to spend more on hospital care while achieving poorer health outcomes.

Abolishing Medicare Locals, as reported in today’s media, would reverse the gains they have already made in primary healthcare and ultimately result in a less equitable and efficient healthcare system.
