Football faithful hit back at evidence-free drugs probe

Essendon fans are angry at their treatment by the Australian Crime Commission and the investigation into drugs and administration. And the media is also in fans' sights.

Could the Australian Crime Commission’s infamous report into drugs in Australian sport — which lacks specific evidence — be on the verge of collapse?

Just two weeks after the famous six-headed press conference featuring the chiefs of Australia’s leading sporting bodies and two Gillard government ministers, the car crash allegations contained in the ACC tome have taken on a whiff of unreality.

[Disclosure: Andrew Crook is an Essendon supporter]

You are henceforth dead to me and all right thinking Crikey subscribers.

I am certainly no Essendon fan but this media circus and the gravely nodding commentariat who are blindly throwing mud are a disgrace. If there are accusations to be made then make them & show us the evidence. Everyone is being tainted – most of them I think unjustly.
However if you could have dragged Collingwood into it then I’d be less concerned.

“Disclosure: Andrew Crook is an Essendon supporter”.

    No, really? Couldn’t tell…

I’m going with Gerard Whateley on this one. Check out Offsiders from last Sunday and you’ll see what I mean.

This was written by an Essendon supporter?! I never would have guessed. Please Crikey, could we have at least someone with objectivity writing articles about this issue. If I want partisan football supporter gibberish there’s plenty of AFL fan forums I could visit, but I choose not to.

Didn’t Essendon out itself? This article reminds me of my Grandad’s favoriate saying “if you saw it in the street you’d step over it”…

I think there is more than enough stinky stuff to warrant the press conference, assuming all these apologists like Crook dont win the day. Interesting name that…

Isn’t there a lot of money riding on this?
