Why does Gerry want to fix Qantas? Because he can’t help himself

Gerry Harvey’s apparent involvement in a plot to fix Qantas is another example of a billionaire trying to fix an iconic company. These people just can't help themselves.

The great blessing and curse of the entrepreneur is that they see opportunity everywhere.

Walk down to the shops and you’re bound to see an opportunity for a new store or a way for an existing one to grow. Head to a new city and you’ll almost certainly see an idea you can bring back to Australia, or a way for an Australian idea to be introduced to this new market. Every business lunch, every family barbecue, every holiday, every meeting can trigger a new business idea.

  1. Groucho

I can think of 3 billion reasons.

  2. Will Arnott

It’s a non-story. Carnegie has suckered someone at the AFR (looks like Chessell) into running his spin. It’s noticeable that not one shareholder of any size showed any interest whatsoever. In fact there’s no evidence that Carnegie et al have done anything but have a few too many in one of their pubs and convinced themselves they’re BSDs.
Someone, however, is buying Fairfax shares in big lumps.
