Moderation? Who indeed can afford to be moderate in these uncertain times … my goodness me yes.

It’s like a long infected boil finally closing over… vale Andrew’s blog. A great loss to freedom of expression and tolerance.

    I 110% agree with Andrew’s reason.

Freedom had a heavy blow when Andrew was on the front page of papers all over the country when his speech to be racist had been muffled by this oppressive anti-freedom cabal we call ‘a legally and fairly elected government’. Sure, it was the courts, but that isn’t the point.

Since then, Andrew, the literal Freedom Fighter, has been waging war against ‘them’.

The war is escalating. Its getting worse. We simply can’t afford moderation in a time where our (Andrew’s) freedom of speech is in an existential war to the death.

Remember, ‘they’ will stop at nothing – nothing!

Andrew’s escalation is not an attack, it is pre-emptive defense.
How can freedom reign when ‘they’ comment and point out the myriad of factual and logical flaws that are a proud part of every single one of Andrew’s columns? How can we be free when ‘they’ will stoop so low as to comment agreeing with his entire argument in obvious and direct language instead of dog whistles?

‘They’ could be anyone. ‘They’ could be neighbors or work colleagues. ‘They’ might even be you! Only Andrew can save freedom of speech from you!

First Dog and Andrew Bolt both sad examples of the level of debate in this country.

HARRY: First Dog is a dog pretending to be a human being. Andrew Bolt is a gutter dweller not even pretending to be a human being. The two equations are mutually exclusive.

There will always be a moderator for FD, brings a little tear to the eye and makes me tempted to say B is a C just to flaunt them.

Where are Firsts Dog’s commenters? You’re looking at them. All 30 of them, or thereabouts. Pathetic. I get more comments than that on a good thread.

It’s one thing for a media outlet to make light of a rival journalist but to directly make fun of and insult the general public for commenting on a blog went too far.
Not everyone who comments on AB’s blog is a supporter of his views and in fact many reader/contributors to this blog take pride in educating themselves on the issues that the community are concerned with across the full gamut of online publications.
So not only did FD offend me, but some of its own customer base as well. DOH!

But beyond that initial vent, what concerns me is not the lack of moderation on AB’s blog but the reason behind it!
I would have thought AB had a stable user base that was worth the funds required to keep his blog active etc. Is HS in a financial crisis? Have the legal fees/potential law suits to oversee the moderation become that big an issue that the blog is not worth maintaining?
and more to the point… what are the implications for this website?

Most importantly while AB’s blog is moderated, the site does publish opposing view points. I worry for a blog from such an opinionated journalist that has no avenue for public response without the general public taking it upon themselves to comment on AB’s comments on their own personal blogs… and thus.. I would assume, take on board any potential legal/law suits.
