Just one more piece of “doom” to add to the mix-if we get reincarnated then it could be into “that” and not “this.” One self interested reason to work on making the world a better place now for our possibly reincarnated selves then.
It doesn’t get more middle class than angst over your own good fortune. The ex-poor know they don’t want to back there and the wealthy can afford to be generous without risk to their own security if they so desire.
Because I know that other people’s lives are shït doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy what I’ve got.
To grieve for the world’s poverty stricken makes as much sense as envying Gina Rhine Maiden’s billions of dollars. Nothing can be done about either circumstance.
Anyone wishing to flagellate themselves for having drawn the long straw doesn’t deserve to have drawn it. Why import the misery of a small Syrian child’s death
So God bless the goods we was given
And God bless the U. S. of A.
And God bless our standard of livin’
And let’s keep it that way
And we’ll all have a good time

Or cf script of Silk Stockings (1957 movie):
Ninotchka Yoschenko (Cyd Charisse): Aren’t you ashamed to be an exploiter?
Steve Canfield (Fred Astaire): Speaking as one exploiter to another, isn’t it the place to be?
‘SHOE: What really makes moderation so onerous is when one writes a completely clean post. Mix that up with a web site that’s causing havoc and I go Arrrrgghh.
