The Glenn Dyer breakdown: After hours of rain, last night’s one-day international between Australia and India turned into a gold mine for Nine … 1.335 million watched it in metro markets, and about 2 million across the country.

Ten won the non-cricket section of the night, although Seven had the numbers. Ten’s line-up did better than Seven’s except at 8.30pm.

Young Talent Time held onto the million viewers from 6.30pm and beat the returning Sunday Night.

Homeland, Modern Family and New Girl all had solid audiences and only Seven’s Bones at 8.30pm could match it. Seven did better than Ten because of the strength of the 6pm news against The Project.

Last Week: Seven won the metro and regional markets. The men’s Australian Open tennis final was the top program with 2.725 million, not as good as in past finals, but this one was stretched across six hours, which is an enormous audience for so long a period of time. Second was the second Twenty20 cricket game from last Friday night with 2.2 million people and the first game was third with 2.138 million.

Tonight: The ABC’s hours of news and current current affairs, with Australian Story, Four Corners, Media Watch and Q&A returning. The weight-loss programs at seven o’clock on Nine and Ten: avoid and save yourself. Seven has My Kitchen Rules. Seven also has the night’s entertainment highlight, Please Marry My Boy at 8.30, which is better than I thought it would be.

The Losers: Zen on the ABC at 8.30pm; the 494,000 viewers were justified for a story based on a Michael Dibdin book that was based in Perugia (and a bit of Rome). The episode was totally relocated to Rome (or wherever it was mocked up by the producers) to save money.

Metro News & CA:With the cricket as the lead in (even if it was the tail end of the rain delay), Nine was always going to win Sydney and Melbourne. Seven won Brisbane because of the time delay of an hour and the better news reading. Seven won Adelaide and Perth.

FTA: Nine (3 channels) won with a share of 32.0% from Seven (3) on 26.3%, Ten (3) was on 23.2%, the ABC (4) ended on 13.4% and SBS (2) was on 5.0%.

Main Channels: Nine won with a share of 25.3% from Seven on 21.6%, Ten was on 18.5%, ABC 1 was on 10.7% and SBS ONE was on 4.1%.

Digital: Go won the digitals with 4.0% from Eleven on 2.9%, Gem was on 2.8%, 7TWO was on 2.5%, 7mate was on 2.3%, ONE was on 1.9%, ABC 2 ended with 1.2%, SBS TWO was on 0.9%, ABC 3 was on 0.8% and News 24 ended with 0.7%. That’s an FTA share last night of 20.0%.

Pay TV: Nine (3 channels) won with a share of 27.0% from Seven (3) on 22.2%, Ten (3) was on 19.6%, pay TV (200-plus channels) ended on 13.6%, the ABC (4) ended on 11.3% and SBS (2) was on 4.2%. The 15 FTA channels had a viewing share last night of 86.4%. The 10 digital channels had a share of 16.8% and the five main channels, 69.6%.

Regional: Win/NBN (3 channels) won with the ODI cricket and had a share of 35.9%. Prime/7Qld (3) was second on 27.2%, with SC Ten (3) on 19.8%. the ABC (4) ended with 12.9% and SBS (2) was on 4.2%. The main channels were won by WIN/NBN on 29.0%, with Prime/7Qld on 21.8%. GO won the digitals with a share of 4.3%, with 7TWO on 3.7% and Gem on 2.6. Ten’s Sunday evening line-up failed to have the impact in regional areas that it had in the metro markets.

The five most-watched programs in regional markets were:

  1. Cricket: Australia v India– 687,000
  2. Bones — 529,000
  3. Nine News — 498,000
  4. Castle — 486,000
  5. The Force — 449,000

Major Markets: Nine won, but it wasn’t a sweep because of the three-hour time difference in Perth where Seven won overall and the main channels. Nine won overall and the main channels in the four other markets, except Brisbane where Seven won the main channels. GO dominated the digitals, winning Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth outright and sharing Adelaide with Eleven. Gem won Sydney.
