While police and medical serials/procedurals may have ruled the roost on mainstream TV for years, the Internet and spread of pay television platforms is enabling shows with relative niche appeal to find an audience. This is particularly true for web serials.  The most notable (and arguably, the most successful) being The Guild – a web series based around the antics of a group of video gamers.

One that may be worth checking out is the new Fitzroy-set web series Shutterbugs. The show, which launches next week, is a comedy web series set around a group of photography enthusiasts. The preview online gave me at least two laugh out loud chuckles (though, admittedly no ROFL’s), which is more than I get from most comedies. It’s a DIY production, so while one can’t expect it to look too polished, it does seem to have a reasonably attractive visual style to it. I’m pretty keen to take a look at it when it launches.
