Federal Health Minister Nicola Roxon’s announcement of the addition of 13 new drugs to the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme comes as a huge relief, given that I’m currently taking one of the drugs on a time-limited “patient familiarisation program” supplied  by the company concerned (Novartis).

Yesterday, I posted on The Stump about my concerns surrounding the withholding of medications from the PBS:

Let me use this forum to comment on a related matter.

I saw the headline in yesterday’s Sydney Morning Herald.

    Headlines were:
    minister succumbs to pressure, and
13 drugs added to the PBS.

The article then described how the minister had rejected parts of the submission.

Then listed only two of the drugs.

Annoyance 1: Why can’t newspaper operatives construct headlines that are supported by the report.

Annoyance 2: And why couldn’t they list the other 11 drugs. Average length of the names of drugs is about ten characters. It would have costed the SMH 121 letters plus punctuation to list them

Would that cost-saving save the Fairfax empire?

If this is the standard of journalism then they were right to fire the sub-editors. They don’t need them for this standard of work.
