Who’s sitting out the NAPLAN tests? My partner is a teacher and came home saying that no less than seven  kids in year 9 simply did not do the NAPLAN test. They just sat there and waited the time out. The tests do not contribute to their marks so the kids saw no reason to participate. No doubt seven students doing this would easily be enough to skew the school’s result. I’m not sure what’s worse — kids not turning up, or kids turning up and refusing to do the test.

The Age merger talk won’t go away. Rumours persist about further cost cutting at The Age, with the Sunday Age in Rural Press’ sights. Could it be that they will repeat the failed move by then editorial chief Steve Harris and  merge the Sunday with The Age‘s Monday to Saturday paper? One very senior Age manager has boasted widely about his great feat in merging two New Zealand papers without each editor knowing. Is history about to repeat itself?
