Malcolm Turnbull seems to identify with classic Aussie rock anthem, The Saints‘ “I’m Stranded”:

The Saints were arguably the world’s first PUNK ROCK band. Hardly classic Aussie Rock. They started in 1974 BEFORE The Sex Pistols and The Clash and in the same year as The Ramones. Pretty cool for a band from Inala.
The Saints were a punk rock band. This does not disqualify them from the broader ‘rock’ genre, as the term ‘punk rock’ suggests. Nor does it disqualify them from being classic or aussie. There is no reason they cant be both punk rock and classic aussie rock.
If you wrote the story would you use Classic Aussie Rock?
Yes punk rock is a genre of rock but for me Classic Aussie Rock for me refers to Cold Chisel, Mental As Anything, Men at Work etc. And I wouldn’t be throwing The Saints into that group.
James, I think Iggy Pop and the Stooges arrived before the Saints. Who’d have thought that the 3 Stooges would later go on to lead the Liberal Party? How did Julie Bishop survive all this, and why? Did Peter Dutton have a little lie down (after a lovely time at the Gold Coast)? Strange days indeed…
Well, if I’m ever in a lift behind a grey haired man, I’m sure to know whether it is Malcolm Turnbull or not.
