Sharan Burrow has been trying to lock down the seat of Macquarie for about a year now. Bob Debus, who turns 65 this year, won’t recontest the seat and Burrow is sniffing around. Debus wants a Hard Left operative but Burrow will do. He told an insider he wont accept “any previous candidates” running to replace him, meaning former Macquarie candidates Mark Ptolemy and Adam Searle.

At a time when Western Australian government departments are being leant on to save money, the Minister for Corrective Services has a spare 100k a year to hire a new “strategy” adviser.
