Myer’s already freyed relationship with their face, Jennifer Hawkins, took a turn for the worse this week when they discovered she was booked to open Melbourne’s new Louis Vuitton store next week. Despite a deal worth millions, Myer’s management have almost no leverage over her many other commitments, and are openly angry that she continues to accept new and often conflicting projects. The LV deal has particularly angered Myer as the brand recently knocked back Myer’s overtures to open a concept shop in the redeveloped Myer Melbourne store because LV thought Myer too downmarket, and not compatible with their luxury brand. Reminiscent of Jen’s decision earlier this year to attend the opening of the new Sydney Jimmy Choo shoe store. Myer head honchos expressed their considerable dismay and anger to Jen’s management when several fashion scribblers noted that apart from the new store, Jimmy Choo shoes are only available at DJs. It was chuckles all around on Wednesday afternoon when WA premier Colin Barnett’s limp media crew started using the WA Government’s global alert system for issuing media responses meant for individual journalists around the State’s regional media. If only those press releases were seen outside of the working media, the public might know how lame and spin-perpetuating are our State MPs. Instead it’s just business as usual.

On Friday the Victorian Education Dept put out a closed tender for the “Ultranet” consisting of IT Services and Software worth $60M. This tender was only sent to 5 overseas companies, no Australian owned company can bid for this work. All of this five days before an announcement by Brumby that the Victorian government is pushing local business in all infrastructure and government projects. This stinks, local IT companies could deliver this project but are instead laying off people. A number of the selected five companies are not even on the Victorian e-Services Panel for preferred IT suppliers.

A deep throat in counter-intelligence writes: The lurid attack on President-elect Barack Obama by Al Qaeda indicates that the terrorist outfit is now well and truly penetrated by Western intelligence. Since his election three weeks ago, Obama has been under siege from conservative domestic opponents who — like former PM John Howard — argue that his victory will bring nothing but comfort and succour to Al Qaeda. It was decided at the highest level that what was needed was a full-throated denunciation of Obama by the terrorists. It arrived on time and as planned.

From the grassy knoll: Google Earth is going to rule the world. They are trying to get 24 hour surveillance on all the people on earth.
