Why does The Australian enthuse so effusively over World Youth Day?

Why does it mock other news sources that dare to highlight last week’s running story on the ugly aftermath of clergy s-x abuse? Why? A sense of pious mission presumably.

That and the fact that News Limited papers are among the event’s major corporate affiliates.

And why does Fairfax bang on and on about the unalloyed wonders of the iPhone? Perhaps because if has a deal with Apple to carry its classified advertising.

All we ask people, having given up on the notion of commercial/publishing purity, is the odd declaration of interest. Simple.
