Alcohol and politicians mix about as well as Bali braids and end-of-season football trips, and the results are equally hilarious.

Perhaps French President Nicolas Sarkozy was still in celebration mode following his election triumph, or perhaps it was just the nefarious influence of Vladimir Putin, but there was certainly a twist in his sobriety at a recent G8 press conference.

For the monolingual, the presenter says: “I couldn’t resist the desire to show you the start of the press conference held by Nicolas Sarkozy … apparently, he hadn’t drunk anything but water!”

Sarkozy: “Excuse my lateness, due to the length of my dialogue with Vladimir Putin … so, are there any questions?”

Speaking of G8 faux pas, last year’s conference saw the unfortunate German Chancellor Angela Merkel on the receiving end of a George Bush shoulder rub. Was he drunk? One can only hope so.

Angela looks thrilled to be sure, but it could have been worse. At least George W did not repeat the sins of the father and vomit on her lap.

When it comes to the world’s most powerful men behaving strangely, however, there can be only one. His name? Boris. Enjoy the highlights:
