WA police have
moved against the sometimes wayward West Coast Eagles Brownlow
medallist, Ben
Cousins. The star former West
Coast captain is to be charged today for abandoning a car on a
thoroughfare. He has admitted
to police that he was driving his four-wheel drive Mercedes wagon on
Perth’s Canning Highway when he saw a booze bus and immediately
stopped, took the keys, and ran off,
leaving his passengers stranded. But sources
claim that police were unable to lay other more series charges. He
cannot, for
instance, be charged for refusing a breath test because he never
actually
confronted a traffic policeman. This is now seen
as a loophole in the Traffic Act which needs to be promptly amended.
