The South
Australian state election campaign is officially underway, with Premier Mike
Rann going to the Governor yesterday.

The Labor
Party now has a spanking new “Rann gets results” website up. It opens with a “Message From Mike”:

Today, more South Australians have jobs than
at any other time in our history and we have achieved the lowest unemployment
rate in 30 years.

Together we have won the Air Warfare
Destroyer contract for South Australia and made ourselves the Defence State…

The
Premier has made much about defence contracts. Today’s Adelaide Advertiser
tells how he wants to build on
SA’s position as a defence industry centre.

Yet in
most cases – like the Air Warfare Destroyers contract, announced with much
hoopla last year – this simply involves taking federal funds.

When
ordinary sods do this, it’s called being on the dole.
