ABC Radio is set to announce later today
that it has back to the ABC gene pool to find the person to fill its
vexed breakfast shift on 702 in Sydney – former Triple J breakfast host
Adam Spencer is said to have the gig.

ABC
insiders also says there will be a change in time for the breakfast
shift, starting at 5am and finishing at 7.45, which would mean Virginia
Trioli’s morning program starting after AM at 8.30am.

Spencer
is a solid performer, though different from Angela Catterns who started
the chain reaction at 702 earlier this year by jumping to the new DMG
station, Vega.

Sarah MacDonald, who is currently presenting
the breakfast shift on 702, is about to go on two weeks’ leave and the
other contender, Simon Marnie remains in his popular weekend
breakfast/mornings timeslot on 702.

There was speculation
reported last week that Tricia Duffield, the breakfast announcer on ABC
local radio in Brisbane, could be a contender when she revealed
recently that she was leaving Brisbane and moving to Sydney. But the
final list was MacDonald, Marnie and Spencer, who has kept in touch
with the ABC since finishing up on Triple J breakfast – which he hosted
with comedian Wil Anderson – a year ago.

Besides being a comedian, Spencer is a former science reporter and will bring a journalist’s eye for stories to the shift.
