Ros Reines used to be a Crikey regular, but we haven’t had much of the Sunday Telegraph’s social chronicler in a long time. So let’s get in with the question on everyone’s lips. Ros, in the wake of what’s transpired, how do you feel about this piece you had on Rene Rivkin on page seven of TheTelegraph the day he topped himself? A lot of people seem to have plenty to say about it privately. Anything you’d like to say about this piece, Ros – let alone the further details in your column down the back of the paper?

The marriage of disgraced stockbroker Rene Rivkin and his wife Gayle is understood to be in serious trouble.

Rivkin, who was found guilty of insider trading in 2003 and sentenced to nine months periodic detention, has moved out of the family home to live with his mother in Darling Point.

The Rivkins have been married for 32 years and have five children.

The Rivkin family has been under severe strain since the former celebrity businessman and investment adviser was convicted.

Rivkin’s weekend detention was delayed after he collapsed in jail and was subsequently diagnosed with a brain tumour.

He tried to commit suicide in early September but later served out his sentence in the Long Bay prison complex. Since completing his sentence, Rene Rivkin has suffered from bouts of depression and he has become a virtual recluse.

Rivkin has also lost the trappings of his former flamboyant and fast-paced life, including his fleet of cars, his helicopter, his superyacht and many of his young friends.
