After five long years, at midnight tonight it’s farewell to amatuer Crikey and hello to the new professional operation. You’ll be getting an introductory email from the new owners tomorrow morning which will explain how Crikey will move forward. Expect to see the new look and feel much earlier in the day than this typically late effort.

We’ve been producing the sealed sections out of the Private Media Partners office for the past four days. Rather than 10 people working from homes all over Australia, this is a buzzing inner city news room with a dozen staff, admin support, telephones, an advertising man and a couple of proprietors who can provide some clear leadership.

New co-editor Misha Ketchell, who was recuited from The Age, is already reading the [email protected] email address. Why don’t you hit boss with a good yarn before midday tomorrow and try and make it into the first edition produced by the new guard.

The old editor will now be primarily focusing on business coverage and shareholder activism. He’s looking to tap into every disgruntled analyst, lawyer, stockbroker, auditor and non-executive director out there to keep the corporate cartels and directors’ club honest. You’ll be reading the stuff every day in Crikey. All tips and comments are welcome at [email protected].

Finally, a big thank-you to all the contributors, subscribers, tippers, pro-bono lawyers, advertisers and the likes for making this work. It’s been one hell of a ride and it wouldn’t have happened without you.

Thank you and good night, from Christian Kerr

Christian Kerr writes:

Gosh. Hasn’t five years gone quickly? One door closes, another opens, hey?

Disclose, disclose, disclose has always been the Crikey mantra – and on this day of all special days I must display my adherence.

Let the record therefore show that my skincare products come from Biotherm Homme, while Dior’s Eau Sauvage remains my cologne of choice, that I vote Labor while an unabashed and unashamed and although I haven’t got the foggiest who the greatest living Australian is, know the cutest simply has to be Lisa Seiffert

And while Alyssa and Gemma fans will get no succour, intelligent and entertaining comments, gossip, squibs, leaks and leads will still be welcome at [email protected].

CRIKEY: And a big thank you to Christian, our fabulous number one contributor since it all began on February 14, 2000.
