No, it’s got nothing to do with Janet. Adelaide news and current affairs supremo Tom O’Byrne is causing the angst this time. He’s been mentioned in despatches from the Australian Industrial Relations Commission, in a hearing transcript that’s bobbed up on the web here.
O’Byrne is not the person taking the action. It’s a CPSU delegate defending a charge of misconduct. But it appears to have been driven by O’Byrne under some interesting logic.
O’Byrne will be up before the Commissioner to explain his side of things on Friday 11 March. However, given a string of resignations, shocking morale, and a new media low point which saw the local ABC weather girl appearing on page three of The Advertiser last week wondering if she’ll have a job to return to after maternity leave, ABC hacks are questioning O’Byrne’s ability to run a newsroom.
And we hear there’s more to come.
