February was another strong month for Crikey website site traffic – driven by the announcement of the sale to Private Media Partners on February 2, as web-monitors Hitwise reported a couple of weeks ago:

Text Media’s (Private Media Partners actually – ed) purchase of independent news service Crikey created a lot of discussion both on and offline as traditional and new media evaluated its implications. News of the sale on February 2 saw traffic to the homepage increase significantly, causing the website to leap 296 places to become the 151st most popular Australian website overall and the 17th most popular Australian ‘News & Media’ website. Google Australia and Google Australia News directed a combined total of more than 15% of users to the site on the day.

The website had 1,331,681 pages views from 462,224 unique visitors during the month, up more than 80 per cent on February 2004 (734,313 page viewers; 288,585 visitors). It was our third best month ever as you can see from this table:
