Dear NGSM Students

The Vice Chancellor has asked that the following message be circulated to all students.

Tuesday, March 01, 2005 11:30 AM

I have written to you recently about the new arrangements for NGSM – primarily that Professor Houghton will be the Director of the School and the prescribed authority. This morning Professor Choi and I held discussions about the implications of this for his role.

Professor Choi has advised me that he has decided to leave the University effective immediately. I have accepted his resignation.

Professor Houghton will make appropriate arrangements. Specifically, he will meet individually with each of Professor Choi’s PhD students within the next two days to identify suitable arrangements for each of them.

I hope that the staff and students of the NGSM will see this as an opportunity to secure the future of the School. I will do what I can to help.

Ian Chubb

Professor Houghton will be Director of the NGSM and continue as Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Commerce (FEC). The two entities will continue to exist as parallel, but closely collaborating units within the ANU.

Professor Houghton has asked me to extend an invitation to you to attend a meeting of NGSM’s students this Thursday, 3rd March, at 5.00pm, in the NGSM Lecture Theatre on Level 1 of the Sir Roland Wilson Building. This will provide an opportunity for you to meet Professor Houghton, and to discuss the future direction of our School.

Ed Russell
Deputy Executive Director
