Should mention that

Mackerras: Memo Fran Kelly, the psephologist always knows

Fran Kelly should read Crikey more thoroughly than she does. I say that because I heard her on ABC Radio National this morning say that “No one is predicting a landslide”. I have been predicting landslides to Labor ever since the election was called, writes Malcolm Mackerras.

Mackerras: I tipped this

Kevin Rudd was elected as Leader of the Labor Party on Monday, 4 December 2006. For me that was a signal. I should stop prevaricating about the result of the general election due a year from then, an election likely to be held on the last Saturday of November or the first Saturday of December in 2007.

Bennelong: I tipped this, says MacKerras

Back on 20 February the following words of mine were printed in Crikey: “Let me be the first pundit to predict that the Liberal Party will lose this year’s general election as a whole, and Bennelong in particular.” Those words were the result of my reading of a Morgan Crikey poll showing Labor ahead in Bennelong by 55-45. That was before it was known Maxine McKew would be Labor’s candidate.
