Reality check: Australian polls poles apart

Editors of newspapers like to kid themselves that they are in touch with their readers - that they know who they are and what they are interested in reading. Some editors and proprietors even have delusions about influencing the readers and there are politicians aplenty who live in fear that it actually happens.

Mixing the polls: Monday edition

Today’s Mumble poll-mix contains some good news for the Coalition - relatively speaking. It averages the three polls from the last fortnight - a Newspoll, a Morgan and today’s Galaxy - giving greater weight to the most recent.

Take care with Senate polls

This morning’s Australian, brings news of another Galaxy poll - commissioned by the same outfit, GetUp!, that paid for last week’s poll on gay marriage. This time it’s about Senate voting intention: GetUp! is backing a campaign to try to deprive the Coalition of its Senate majority at this year’s election.
