Hasluck
Key West
Marginal Liberal, 1.8%
Hasluck is an outer suburban seat in the east of Perth that reaches from Guildford, Midland and High Wycombe to the Hills district around Gooseberry Hill, Kalamunda and Lesmurdie, and takes in a large part of the south-eastern corridor, including Maddington, Thornleigh and Gosnells.
Liberal Stuart Henry has been the member since 2004; his Labor opponent is Sharryn Jackson, who held the seat from 2001 to 2004 and has also served as state ALP president. The electorate was only created in 2001, but Hasluck is a classic outer-suburban marginal, so far swinging consistently with the state-wide trend. Although Labor is on the defensive in Western Australia, it has a serious chance of picking up both Hasluck and Stirling if there is any sort of movement in the party’s favour. Both seats could be vital to Labor’s chances of forming government.
