Longman

Front Bench Seat

Fairly safe Liberal, 6.7% (post-redistribution – previously 7.7%)

Longman is an outer suburban seat in Brisbane's far north that takes in some of the fastest growing regions of the country – Caboolture, Kallangur, Mango Hill, Deception Bay, Burpengary and Morayfield, along with Bribie Island. Liberal Mal Brough has been the MP since its creation in 1996, but Longman is in a region of such rapid change and population growth that making predictions about where it might go is a risk. Boundary changes have slightly improved the prospects for Labor’s Jon Sullivan, but at the same time Brough’s profile has improved with his promotion to cabinet. Labor would like to win Longman, but it looks like quite a big ask.

Declared Candidates

  • Mal Brough, Liberal Party
  • Paul Costin, Greens
  • Susan Meredith, One Nation
  • Liz Oss-Emer, Australian Democrats
  • Jon Sullivan, Australian Labor Party
