Dobell

It Polls for Thee

Marginal Liberal, 4.8% (post-redistribution – previously 5.9%)

Dobell is an outer suburban seat that takes in the northern half of the Central Coast dominated by retirees and young families. It is based on Wyong Shire and includes Wamberal, Ourimbah, Tuggerah, Wyong, Berkeley Vale, Bateau Bay, The Entrance, Warnervale and Norah Head, plus a semi-rural area in the west around Kulnura and Yarramalong. The Liberal MP Ken Ticehurst has held the seat since 2001 when in a surprise win he defeated Labor’s Michael Lee, who had held Dobell since its creation in 1984. Labor’s candidate this time is Craig Thomson, National Secretary of the Health Services Union.

The redrawing of the electoral boundaries has helped the ALP, and Ticehurst is a low-profile MP. While this is the sort of seat Labor wants to win, there is a chance that the unpopularity of the NSW State Government may damage the federal party’s chances, leaving them more reliant on Queensland and South Australia.

  • Steve Hughes, Citizens Electoral Council
  • Scott Rickard, Greens
  • Naomi Paton, Family First
  • Craig Thomson, Australian Labor Party
  • Ken Ticehurst, Liberal Party
