Outer suburban: very mixed territory, with eastern suburbs around Boronia, parts of the Dandenongs from Ferntree Gully to Belgrave and Emerald, part of the south-eastern corridor near Berwick, and rural areas around Gembrook.

A local state issue (the row over the toll on the Scoresby Bypass) may have inflated the Liberal margin in La Trobe in 2004. A strong swing to Labor could give the seat back at this year’s poll.
