Fairly safe Independent, 8.9% (post-redistribution).
Rural: most of the northern part of the state, including the coastal towns of Innisfail and Tully, the Atherton Tableland, the corridor stretching west from the outskirts of Townsville through Charters Towers to Cloncurry and Mount Isa, and the remote Gulf country.
Member: Hon. Robert Katter (born 1945), since 1993 (National Party until 2001; never a federal minister, his ‘Honourable’ comes from service as a Queensland state minister 1983–89).
Katter is a classic northern Queensland MP. Labor will be hoping his seat stays independent.
