Private Media welcomes Marni Cordell as the new editor of Crikey.
Renowned independent news editor and journalist Marni Cordell has been appointed editor of Australia’s leading independent news website, Crikey.
“Marni Cordell is an experienced editor and is fiercely passionate about the pursuit of independent journalism without fear or favour. She has an impressive track record of discovering new talent and nurturing them into journalists of serious standing. I am excited by what Marni has planned for Crikey’s next stage,” said Private Media CEO Marina Go.
Cordell has worked as a journalist and editor in independent media for the past 15 years and until recently was the publisher and editor of independent news website New Matilda.
“I’m excited to be joining one of the top independent media outlets in the country. The online media environment is changing rapidly, but Crikey is one of the originals and remains one of the best,” Cordell said.
“It sets its own editorial agenda at a time when so many others are following the pack. I admire Crikey’s curiosity, its willingness to serve it up to all-comers and its fierce independence.”
Marni Cordell’s appointment commences Monday 19 May 2014. Current Crikey editor Jason Whittaker immediately takes on the role of editor at The Mandarin, Private Media’s new publication showcasing and sharing the work of Australia’s growing number of public sector leaders.
Crikey continues to cement its position as the leading independent news analysis website in the country, with traffic surging by 37% in the past year. Crikey was recently cited as the third-most popular website by the Audited Media Association of Australia, with daily UBs growing 16.2 % from February to March.
