Wouldn&#039;t a far more useful and interesting contribution be to examine the validity of &quot;fresh ground water...will be depleted&quot; &quot;aquifer depletion and subsidence from...fracking&quot; and &quot;if you start putting roads and pipes in, it will upset the surface flows along the plains and everything will get washed away&quot; fears?

This the sort of sterile &#039;debate&#039; that leads to poor decision-making, arising from a scientifically illiterate populace.  I hope an examination of the hydrogeological issues will follow very shortly.

In a different vein, I have to admit that &quot;farmers...ploughing the delicate vertisol soil of the floodplains...are cutting-edge, using groundbreaking technology&quot; is one of the funniest things I&#039;ve read in Crikey for a long time ;)</description>
