In order for rio tinto to smooth over the Stern Hu “fiasco”, they had to hire Henry Kissinger. They took advantage of his Guanxi,(personalized networks of influence)a cultural must in China. Henry knew who to bribe and get away with it, (imo).
I was happy to hear that Sarah Armstrong had been released. Detained along with Sarah was Justin Kapla President, SouthGobi Sands. There has been no word about him in the press other than the detainment. They were detained by Bat Khurts, the head of Mongolia’s National Security Council. Read up on him, he has an interesting history.
As for China ownership, they own 9% of Rio Tinto. They will get $$$

Who owns the majority of shares in Rio Tinto? Is it the Queen or is that just a republican rumour?

Isn’t Rio the same mob that complained about Australia (more notably it’s current government) being seen as sovereign risk to corporations such as Rio when compared to other countries it strips of sovereign wealth. I say, la, la, for Rio maybe good ol’ Australia even when the government in good times demands more of the corporate wealth to share around for all Australian isn’t such a bad place to invest after-all
