Where is NZ, Aus and the pacific islands?
I love how “the UN says population will levee out at 10 billion” but no-one ever considers what will cause that levelling off? Honestly, unless we start moving out into space (which is what I assume will happen) only serious epidemics, wars, famines or totalitarian birth control measures have a hope of making that come true.
@Modus Ponens, I hardly think Oceania’s population warrants a jar in this example
Can somebody please advise what application I need to watch Video of the Day? My screen advises that my computer is “missing plug-in”. Any IT boffins here?
Wexford, we deserve a jar. This jar-withholding violates our human right to be statisticized! Er… counted. And videod. Who likes being excluded from a family video?
Zut, YouTube uses Flash on desktop computers. Your browser should have it installed as a plugin. Check the preferences/options for plugins. If it’s there but not enabled, enable it. If it’s not there, look for a button or menu item which says something like “Get more plugins” or “Install plugins”. If you can’t find that, Google “install Flash plugin for BrowserName”, substituting the name of your browser (e..g. Safari, Chrome, Opera, Firefox).
If you’re using Internet Explorer, switch to Firefox. IE is always buggy.
If you’re on iOS (iPad, iPhone, iPod), YouTube videos should run natively as HTML5. This means that Apple have set it all up for you, as they have in the Safari browser on desktop Macs.
If you’re on Android, the browser should be accessing the same HTML5 videos set up for iOS, but Android does vary. At a pinch, you can copy the URL of the video and watch it in another browser.
I hope this helps.
Clytie,
You are a fount of knowledge, thanks. I have a new iMac, therefore use Safari. My old Mac had no trouble with Video of the Day but, clearly, this one must be missing Flash. Where do I find it for downloading?
As you can see, I’m not too savvy and my Apple guru has thoughtlessly gone away on holiday.
@ ZUT ALORS, you need adobe flash player.
You can get Flash from here: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
Sparky,
I checked the applications and I have it installed. There was an option to open with Rosetta, do I need this program, too?
Thanks to Clytie, Sparky and Tinman for your input.
It appears there is an issue with Snow Leopard’s operating system: Rosetta is required to open Flash. Have spent time on Apple forum websites regarding Rosetta and have concluded that it’s best for the Apple guru to sort-out when he returns from holiday. I’m tempted to hook-up the old Apple and put this one back in the box!
Snow Leopard - how quaint. Do you also drive a Zephyr?
Sarcasm aside, you shouldnt be having this much trouble. I am also a MAC user (although I have embraced the 21st century with Lion). Never had a problem with videos/YouTube. And do not have Rosetta as far as I can tell. Suspect some other issue.
