A hokey political speech, with pelvic thrusts

SA Liberal Senator Mary Jo Fisher took to dancing the Hokey Pokey and The Time Warp in her speech against a carbon price, resulting in one of the most memorable political speeches we’ve seen in a while. And not memorable in a good way.

Oh good lord….Someone told her that this would be a good idea. It wasn’t.

You can’t help but feel sorry for her really. I actually felt a bit mean by the end of it for laughing.

However, why does she keep looking down at what you assume are notes? Did she actually put some thought into that ramble before hand? If so, the notes must read “Just keep talking! Say Dud policy!”

A good reminder why Pyne is seen as “Talent” by South Australian liberals. It’s hardly a Melbourne Cup field.

I don’t think I have ever been so happily shocked that voting is free. I got terrific value for money. The Fisher family must be enraptured with that performance, south australian you say. Good on those mob down south, proud of you work and representation. Liberal? Nice been a while since we had a bit of pelvic thrust action from the southern states members. Hold your head up Australia, this is democracy.. She got the point across so well. good to see we are on a road like so many in south aussie to nowhere.

    Mary Jo way to go!

Whoa. That’s one of the most painful things I’ve ever watched. What a compelling argument for … not behaving like little children in parliament?

    I can dream.

Who would have thought that there was a senator in the current parliament, who could make Stephen Fielding, look and sound like a mental giant.
A very sad day all around. :-(

This is about as low as I’ve ever seen Parliament get in this country.
Imagine if these clowns gained power ?
The crossbenchers would probably block supply.

It’s like the excruciating spectacle of a drunken uncle at a wedding. Someone usually quietly grabs an arm and leads him away. Where were the senator’s colleagues?

I’m, er, stunned. And it was delivered in such a stilted, wooden way as well with the indignant head wobble and confected shouty outrage. It’s like the visual version of a letter to the Moreland Leader (“outraged on Glenroy’).

Who on earth thought this was a good idea?

On seeing this yesterday I crawled under my chair and vomited. Thinking I may have over-reacted, I decided to take another look at it and think I under-reacted. The voters in South Australia must be so happy to have this errant female to represent them. I wonder where they found it?

This is the first I’ve haerd of the Honourable Senator for S.A.
Is her term ending in June?
It would be an awful thing fro her to have this as her only memorable contribution to the States’ house and Australia’s public discourse in general……..Maccarena, anyone……?

Lordy. I would have wet myself laughing if present in the chamber for that delivery. Does she not have advisors who could have said - “…er funny on paper but not a good idea”? This clip will find a life around the world - but not for good reasons.

I think she’s possibly not very well.

Someone told her to raise her profile - from that of a non-entity to one of a laughing stock.

Doubtless she will fester on the pink/red benches for 6 years whilst us poor fools pay our standard great big unrepresentative swill tax to keep her and the rest of the “end times” gang in gaffer tape and whips.

I used to think that Julie Bishop’s cat claw routine had set the ‘let’s get more women in parliament’ movement back a couple of decades, but dear Mary Jo (Mary Jo? What grown woman wants to call herself that, unless she’s from the Ozarks?) has set it back a century or two. And now I learn that we have another 6 years of this person to endure. As my English teacher used to say -‘Oh ye gods and little fishes!’.

Liberals’ new profile - democracy in dance and an ode to Abbott on the Orient rehearsing the penguin strut:

This king penguin walks in a funny way
In his suit of black and white
He looks so posh he could be goin’
    To the miners’ ball tonight

Well he walks so fast on the slippery ice
    Sometimes he just falls down
But he jumps straight up and carries on
    ….Like a wobbly clown – a wobbly clown…

Doin’ the penguin strut….doin’ the penguin strut

    This penguin sure can strut
And really squawks when he tells those lies
    ‘Ah…ah……ahem….but….but ….but”
Looks such a clown as he walks by… walks by…

Doin’ the penguin strut……..doin’ the penguin strut…..doin’ the penguin strut…

Yeah, South Australians do now have a lot to answer for - at least those who voted for her. We are not all like this, but sadly we all contribute to her salary and other perks. Might be a good thing as she could do even more damage if she was let loose on the wider world.

It’s time to go… Senator Fisher”

What a waste of 04:53… (I think I could think of one or two people associated with Senator Fisher’s life who should have taken the advice to “…bring your knees in tight” but don’t do “…the pelvic thrust” because that will “…really drive you insaaaaaa-aaaane” - as did watching her.)

    Good grief….
