Who gives this redneck oxygen?
I guess inviting that buffoon onto the show was intended to incite something or other. Listen to the studio audience clap when he talks about opposing the mosque!
Good on Whoopi and Joy for walking off. Unfortunate that it became a ridiculous shouting match .. everyone yelling over each other until it descended into a schmozzle. I would have much preferred it if that dickhead O’Reilly had stated his views, then the hosts had just walked out. But then I guess, it is American daytime teevee.
Shock jock? Bill O’Reilly is one of the more “moderate” voices on Fox News. That station becomes more and more dangerous in the way it plays its viewers against the government, and it’s something that won’t end well.
Michael Harvey,
Rupert Murdoch gives this jerk oxygen. O’Reilly is regarded as the grand statesman of Fox News, he’s tamer than most of his colleagues. Yes, really.
If bully bozo OReilly is moderate then H
If bully bozo OReilly is moderate then Hitler was a choir boy who sang angelic hymns and became a Rabbi. He is a nasty loud mouthed bullying wanger. He was hauled into court in a suit brought by his former producer in which she claimed the obstinate bigoted opinionated type with a short fuse, who shouts others down and physically intimidates anyone who disagrees with his nonsense, charged that he spoke to her about sexual fantasies, masturbation and vibrators while sometimes seeming to pleasure himself. He settled out of court for millions.
Some kind of moderate!!!
David, read my comment again. I didn’t say he was a moderate. I said that he is one of the MORE “moderate” voices ON FOX NEWS. If you think Bill is bad you might want to check out Glenn Beck.
sauron256, I regret I cannot associate the word moderate and O’Reilly in any form, more moderate, less moderate, almost moderate, just moderate etc …in his line of business Billo is an extremist and yes Beck is a mad man…but O’Reilly has been called worse. Some descriptions I have read on American blogs wouldn’t get past the mod here. But I take your point, we are on the same wave length
Instead of walking off, Whoopi and Joy should have stayed and pointed out that what 70% of Americans think at any particular time, on the basis of any particular poll, doesn’t trump the constitution. That’s why they have a constitution - so you don’t have to find out what 70% of Americans think at any particular time to determine what the law is. No doubt the constitution even has something in it about the rights of minorities etc and how laws should actually be made. So the opinion of 70% of Americans is utterly irrelevant until they change the constitution to say otherwise.
O’Reilly - an arsehole with a soapbox.
@ Ten Black Donkeys,
You make an excellent point about the constitution. I sometimes reflect on how wise the USA’s Founding Fathers were (gun ownership aside) and ponder the faulty heredity of the clever gene in the generations since.
But you can see how difficult it is to score a point or make any impact on O’Reilly, he knows he’s right. Somehow he just knows.
I understand the IRA are Catholics. Anybody want to ban churches?
I can’t believe they get away with calling it the “Ground Zero Mosque” when in reality it’s the “somewhere else in New York some blocks away cultural centre”. Really, they should lose the argument the second they have to resort to using that misleading name for it.
Jeremy,
I agree, if they called it the Park Street Mosque that would take much of the sting out of the emotive debate. If you google 45 Park Street you will see it’s 2 blocks from the former World Trade Centre site.
The problem for the opponents is that dropping the ‘Ground Zero’ appellation will reveal their true colours ie: patently anti-Muslim with the actual site of the mosque being of little relevance, proximate or not.
A typical Far left dummy spit, when the argument is being lost, run away and sulk! If you disagree with a lefty you get no argument, all you get is vitriol, abuse and flapping of the arms a la Whoopi (it wasn’t rape Goldberg)
As far as i can recall it wasn’t Japanese extremists who attacked Pearl Harbour nor was it German extremists who were responsible for the Holocaust! O’Reilly blew these fat arsed women off the stage! Muslims attacked New York because it is the capitol of the infidel world and do you know what happens to infidels in the Koran? The very book all Muslims worship?
Muslims don’t worship a book.
oh, johnny… is andrew bolt away or something?
vitriol and abuse are trademarks of o’reilly - it’s part of his schtick, and there is no dispute - antwhere - that he is the king of shouting down guests on his own show. in his favour, at least he calls it like he sees it.
beck is a messianic loon with damaged logic and a conspiracy theorist’s self-belief who is having trouble keeping advertisers - even on fox.
hannity is an out and out liar who edits dishonestly and openly disrespects the office of he presidency whilst occupied by a democrat. he just thinks that a democrat victory is, by definition, illegitimate.
special contracted ‘guests’ like coulter draw some of the longest metaphorical bows heard on television anywhere, and she often just ‘makes stuff up’. and palin? well she’s just such an original thinker i don’t know what to say.
fox itself is a danger to functional democracy, and it’s difficult to understand why anyone would take fox personalities out of fox and give them airtime anywhere else, but they do. even jon stewart brings on o’reilly, and last time it was a somewhat unedifying spectacle.
rupert created the monster that is fox, but it’s unlikely he’s running the show anymore. the board seems to have given him failing newspapers to play with whilst they go about the serious business of destroying a presidency that they just don’t like on principle. it’s a disgrace.
Sauron256: Muslims live their lives according to that book, literally!!!
Attiscusdash: Once again the consequences never enter into any argument the left have with regards to just about everything! O’Reilly and Beck have to shout it out loud, they cannot believe the idiocy that is the left and the complete lack of reason behind their arguments. The left always think if it sounds very good then let’s do it because it will make us all feel warm and fuzzy inside, never mind the consequences and repercussions of their actions! Oh don’t worry, both O’Reilly and Beck push the envelope with me too, it can be hard to take, but i understand why both men have to do it this way. Obama is fast becoming the worst president in US history, i firmly believe he hasn’t the faintest idea of what he is doing. “Just print some more money” Now who once said that here in Australia once upon a time? What was her name again?
For what it’s worth i get far more knowledge from watching Colbert than any of them!
As for those fat arsed has beens on The View, it was interesting to note that Barbara Walters was extremely embarrassed by her colleagues.
[Oh don’t worry, both O’Reilly and Beck push the envelope with me too, it can be hard to take, but i understand why both men have to do it this way. Obama is fast becoming the worst president in US history,] so said the john from some planet…
Reading your usual fertiliser john, they do not push that envelope too far or too hard. I can see you sitting there , mickey mouse ears on, clapping and cheering at Billo’s every lunatic word. Then along came Palin, your day is complete. How is life in the asylum?
Nothing to contribute there DAVID? All a bit much for you is it? Don’t let your mind wander to much~ it’s too little to be out alone!
Good grief man, even Bill Maher is siding with O’Reilly on this one, looks like the truth is biting your dumbarse again! It’s not always an open and shut case with me when i watch O’Reilly or Beck, i have more admiration for Colbert and Stewart than those two, at least i get a laugh. The trouble with you lefty’s is you don’t know how to laugh, you take it all far to seriously and when you don’t have it your own way it’s seek out and destroy! “It’s our way or the highway jack” Yeah right! No room for me in the asylum as the good ship nutjob sails onward to oblivion with Captain Bob Brown and his crew of misfiits doing a fine old job of stuffing things up for the rest of us right here in OZ. I honestly thought Kerry was going to slap him last night! Maybe you need to be a little more fair and balanced? Didn’t think so.
the issue? it’s a mosque, for godsakes. it’s not a terrorist training camp. nine years on you’d think there’d be some perspective. saying the 9/11 attack was moslem is like saying those damned christians invaded poland.
those making all the noise about it are the kind of people who just can’t accept the suggestion that their sovereignty has been questioned, that the ‘natural’ hierarchy is not actually an eternal edifice, or that strength of national identity requires adaptation - that it is progressive (Such a ‘lefty’ word, that). not learning is exactly the error that diminishes relevance. the arguments of the right regarding terrorism - what it is, how to deal with it - have failed. yet still they keep trotting out the same ill-considered solutions, usually involving a lot of shouting about the superiority of one belief system over another, but with no agenda for moving on. i guess that’s why it’s called conservative. if they were in power continually, NOTHING would change. ever.
9/11 was a crime, not an invasion. should we have all joined in invading mcveigh’s home state for the oklahoma city bombings? mcveigh was a catholic, republican, ex-US army and ex- NRA member (he quit when he decided their views were too liberal).
who do you blame for that?
you don’t blame anybody. you honour the dead, you solve the crime, and you try to help people move on. you try to help the next generation understand that there are other issues besides his catholicism or his republicanism at fault, and that those are the issues that need attention.
