Barnaby’s bad week

Barnaby Joyce on Monday: “We’re importing more of our food, especially from the good people of south-east Asia … I’ve got nothing against them but I was kind of the mind that we would be feeding them, not them feeding us.”

Barnaby Joyce on Tuesday: “The ceiling insulation program, they are burning down houses as we speak, there are calamities happening around the suburbs near where we are … Maybe if they burn down enough houses, we can re-boot the economy by building them again.”

Barnaby Joyce today: “Oh well, obviously you are concerned when the miniature of a story of a, it becomes the generality of it. When irony apparently becomes the mainstay of a statement, when people say that they don’t want white bread politicians but, and then, in fact they demand them.”

And it’s still only Wednesday.

What a difference not even a week makes in politics?
The Coalition “alternate Treasury benches”, “brains thrust” = Abbott going from his self-cast “Iron Man” to “Slinky”, with those backflips, and his side-kick Barnaby from “Moronic Man” to “Ironic Man” and back again, without moving anything but his lips!

You missed the “I wipe my backside with Productivity Commission reports” remarks.

I’m seriously thinking Barnaby has either a medical or nervous problem. He should pop around to Steve Fielding’s office for a heart-to-heart and then contact the nearest doctor. Politicians can’t afford major communication impediments even if Tony Abbott thinks Joyce is a rare political talent.

This was coming since Laurie Oakes on Sunday previous. Barney was loose off camera before he even spoke. LO opened with ‘you said off camera just now Tony looked like a gutted rabbit coming out of the swim’. That’s an amateur politician for real, revealing ill discipline. I blogged as much last Sunday Joyce looked “terrible” at this level of politics, and not in a partisan way, for any party.

Could be climate has cooked Barney. I mean in a psychological sense. You spend your life serving extractive industry (big agri soils and water, mining, loggers probably, kangaroo shooters?) as a bean counter. Then you go into politics and you have to start accounting to mostly non rednecks. Then this monster feedback mechanism called climate comes along even Cardinal Pell feels his ground shifting and goes hyper defensive about God’s plan for humanity.

With Big Tony he can shift with the weight. But life long rednecks are stranded.

@SBH….the silence from the Abbott cheer squad, since yesterdays News Ltd poll and now the maniac comments gushing from Barnaby Joyce’s mouth, shows a great lack of support for Abbott and the Coalition, when it suits those who are usually the loudest flag wavers for the Libs on these blogs. Of course its impossible to defend the flip flopping of Abbott and the fertiliser comments of Joyce, so we will take it as read, JamesK, mamma and JohnJames have taken their ball and gone home in disgust and rightly so.
