My mum’s always been frightened by the weather.
Just missed by lightning as a kid.
Later having to evacuate on foot in the middle of the night while 8 months pregnant as a cyclone took the roof off.
Still cowers at every summer storm.
She’s more scared of the current weather than the future weather.

Man, professor James Hansen from NASA Goddard Institute on Lateline last night was … as you say scary as in his quiet methodical way.
Must be tough for the parents out there smart enough to get this. And for the others yeah, just angry I guess at that annoying silent voice in the subconcious that won’t get out of their head.
You know if it all turns to crap, then like the convicts we will envy those that have left before us. It will seem quite rational.
Bob Dylan has line in Masters of War which goes something like this ‘You that made the worse fear that can ever be hurled, fear to bring children into the world’.

On a happier note, the job of cartooning will never be more important like a jester in the riven royal court.

I distinctly remember only 10 years ago when a spring/summer thunderstorm was the chance to dance in the rain. Now, after the dance, it brings angst and fire warnings and the sight of my furniture being blown hither and thither. No matter what anyone says, it is not the same….

My ultimate weather nightmare came to pass on a very small ferry in the South China Sea. I was with a friend and a relatively calm crossing was suddenly turned into a maelstrom of sodden skies, lashing rain and a ferry being tossed around like a cork. It was then I heard the cry from hell. “Venise, I can’t swim.”
