The mainstream media have for a long time been the handmaiden of the military industrial complex. In the US 90% of the media are owned by 5 companies, and there are extensive interlinkages between the media companies and the so-called defence industries. In this country Murdoch, Fairfax, Packer and Stokes between them have a stranglehold on the print and tv media which makes Australia one of the worst served among western democracies for the variety of their news sources. It is not as though the ABC or SBS do any better. Look at the annual list of topics published by Project Censored and ask yourself: how much did I read/watch about these topics in Australia. Notwithstanding an overwhelming abundance of evidence to the contrary we are still fed discredited nonsense about Lee Harvey Oswald as the lone nut gunman who killed Kennedy. More recently ABC and SBS refused to broadcast the fact that nano-thermite was discovered in the debris of all three WTC buildings. This information was reported in April 2009 in a major peer reviewed scientific journal and despite it being brought to their attention they have refused to utter a word. The inference one draws is irresistible. Australia is no longer a true democracy. The sheeple are only allowed a narrow range within which to graze and alternative views are rigorously excluded.
