Well duh. Backscratching and stories for favours goes on throughout the media. Not sure the Fin deserves singling out for that. Obviously people choose where they want leaks placed, and they want them where the right people are going to see them. The ethics of public companies wheeling and dealing in non-public information deserves scrutiny though. Perhaps the reason it doesn’t get much is that content makers don’t want to look hypocritical when they themselves indulge in grabbing pre-release stories.

Of course, if Amanda Meade was fair dinkum, instead of being Rupert’s little message girl, she would list the scores who have been marched out of News Ltd around in the country over the last year with barely a thought from the likes of really important people such as John Hartigan and Chris Mitchell. Don’t expect to read that list any time soon among Mandy’s scribblings - anyway, it would take up a whole week’s column space.
