Whilst on the surface it appears that Rudd has been blessed with continuing good fortune in maintaining such a large lead over the opposition. Do any of the pollsters ever consider that what we are seeing may be almost a new norm at least for the foreseeable future. The Howard government broke the trust with Workchoices with a large part of the electorate and the Lib/Nat coalition will struggle for a very long time to convice those people that they learnt their lesson.

Dionysus, that is priceless. One of the funniest things I've ever read. You've got to write in the the Oz with that one, see if they print it.

Have just watched Chris Uhlmans report on the 7.30 Report and it was completely in line with the Oz view of matters. He seems to follow the Oz line. Must be sucking up to them so he can get them to publish another one of his articles. Maybe Bernard, you need to brief Uhlman.

I was considering no longer taking the Weekend Australian myself, but was dissuaded after seeing the new layout, with the much-lauded “white space”. I believe this white space is an important and independent new voice in the Oz and I look forward to its future contributions to the national debate.

Re News Ltd, its obvious the all powerful Murdoch Sen has put Sky News on notice they are to give Rudd and Labor as much bad 'press' as possible. Some of the headers on this mornings newscasts re the poll results in the Fairfax press included, 'Rudd popularity dives', 'Labor down in popularity again', these teasers give a totally wrong impression of course, however at breakfast time, many are listening without either watching or are just getting the teasers on the run.
The interview Murdoch gave Sky News last week, was hardly a ringing endorsement of the Govt or the PM. So the boss sets the trend and the drones do the bidding. Bit like Akerman on Insiders yesterday. His hatred and contempt for all things Rudd, grows in venom. Wouldn't surprise me if the bloated one was carrying a doll like image of the PM with pins stuck in. What a great advertisment for journlism in Oz Akerman is!!!!!He must be sooo welcome down at the local with his collegues.

I'm shocked that Bernard is only now cancelling his subscription! I agree that being totally dependent on the online copy can be tedious but my option is to browse the free copies at my local cafe. No Crikey reader should be knowingly giving a dollar to the Murdoch empire in Australia. As BK implies, and all can see both in print and when their top columnists appear on the tube, the predictability is astounding.

Bernard do you mean to say you were getting the Oz to read the editorials and columns?
No wonder you're sick of it. Still worth reading for the op-eds and other non-staff contributions, though. I just skip all the in-house stuff. My eye just passes over it, along with the advertising.

Dead right, Christopher Dunne. I got very strong impressions of cooking vessels characterising stovetop boilers as objects not emitting electromagnetic radiation in any part of the visible spectrum while reading this. Has there been a week without a Bernard Keane article containing "For , every week is a shocker and they don’t look like improving any time soon", or words to that effect, any time in the last two years?

That's why we read Crikey and not the Oz, Bernard. It is also, perhaps, a warning to you not to become predictable?
