The proof of which you write is plain to see: not only in the supermarket, but in the stock exchange lists & in the big boned people in large cars. It is just extraordinary to what degree marketing has made us into what we today are as a population. The meme spread so effectively to our detriment is one of lacking: and just look at the results. The mass waking up process from the sleep walk into mindlessness is about to occur. People will venture to truly know thyself, throw off the illusion of exclusivity and begin to be inclusive in their day: a true epiphany. Community death as a result of the inherently suspect reign of the automobile will effectively cease. The automaton dutifully performing all it is supposed will shake off the shackles; a beginning to Being in the moment.

rather than taxes on junk food, just remove treatment for "lifestyle" diseases from Medicare. A Red Cross worker in Manila asked me why Australians can eat, drink and smoke themselves to the point of death and then get "rescued" by the taxpayer ...

Great read, surely it is time for some kind of intervention. Products aren't just advertised any more, they are marketed, and marketed in such a way as to play on the weaknesses of consumers. Marketing at children should be completely illegal, environmental and health reasons aside, it is just so intrinsically immoral.

On a recent Q&A, the statement was made that when water restrictions were introduced there was outcry that it was limiting the quality of life for Australians. Now as we are apparently less in danger of water shortage, there was outcry when the restrictions were lessened. A big lesson that society will learn to live with it.

How will Phillip Morris make a profit if we restrict sales of Toblerone, iSnack etc.

Actually a simple ban on crisps, corn chips, vegechips, twisties, cakes, muffins, bikkies, dried fruit, canned fruit, muesli bars, chocolate, flavoured milk would reduce weight. These products are incredibly cheap in comparison to fresh fruit and vegetables.
