Sounds like the Baker/Franklin thing was a truthful fiction rather than a real hoax.

There are three types of deception: using a lie to tell a truth, using a lie to say something unsurprising, and using a lie to give a false view of reality.

Franklin's was the first kind. The Windschuttle hoax earlier this year was the second kind.

All of these reflect on those who speak the lie, but only the third kind reflect on those who are taken in by them and who should have known better.

Angry Penguins, Albino Demidenkos, Hungry Beast gullibles or Windshuttle Wackers, may their line increase. As long as most people get their news from TV ("Brian Told Me", "Is that true or was it in the Terrorgraph?" etc) we are in deepening do-doo.
