I'm amazed at the omission of any discussion about Abbott's role. Then again, with Bernard writing this, I shouldn't be amazed at anything!
I think it was Julia Gillard who contrasted Abbott, leader of the House during the Howard government, with Christopher Pyne, current leader of Opposition business, by using the analogy of a "pit-bull" vs a "poodle". I think she is right.
Turnbull's calculated effort to sideline Abbott is symptomatic of much that ails his leadership.

Frankly Bernard I feel you are very generous in your dispensing of bouquets, however I find your list more interesting for the non inclusion of many of the current spokespersons and poor Chrissie Pyne, not as much as a twitter, the poor dear will be shattered :-)

I wasn't entirely sure what the Scullion comment meant. However as a sometime senate estimates watcher I often seem to catch the bits where Scullion is struggling to even form a question on topics he can't comprehend leaving the public servants to run rings around him.

As a County Liberal member (the old CLP) Scullion has the choice of sitting with the Libs and dumping the Nats. Maybe Turnbull is keeping him onside with the shadow job should the coalition split ever be formalised.

I agree with your comment about Scullion - a waste in any portfolio and there is no value in giving the CLP any notion that they can have any sway in politics...but what about Greg Hunt? I don't think he has put the wood on Garrett and he's been in Environment a long time (Parlt Sec. under Campbell) - do you think he could be a candidate for any other portfolios?
