And what a bristling change! New idea has her tail up and the “you know you want me” dirty smile that is almost R rated. Gosh even Malcolm Turn-Gusset is pimping him out with a blush.

While I’d normally be scared sh*tless to ride on First Dog’s train of thought, every so often his combination of incisive obervations with bizarre concepts take political commentary to a completely new level.

I didn’t say a higher level- just a new one.

And so it was that the sadness of farewelling one of my all-time favourite characters, Brendon Nelson’s hair, was offset somewhat today by the comforting debut of Stephen Smith and Brindha.

That said, First Dog’s ‘Kyoto Protocols 1 & 2’ still adorn my office wall as the all-time classics they are. Brendan (and his hair) gone but not forgotten. The line about Therese packing the boogie board still cracks me up in those quieter moments of reflection.

As for Kevin Rudd’s cat, I’m certain there’s a radio contract out there waiting for him to pick up where Mike Carlton left off.
