Cheers Gamarrang and great to hear some news from the frontline - rather than from an airconditioned office thousands of kilometres away. And I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for Ms Hughes and her ilk to engage in an even-handed debate on these issues. Good luck and keep up the good work...

Thanks Bob for starting a critique of Helen Hughes and her CIS crew. They provide a new meaning for "Independent". I was very interested in the Hughes article and intend to take up some of the claims in other fora. Underlying the article is the assumption that all schools and hence communities are the same! Hence we have the strident cry for Government and other support groups to abandon support for events not held on long weekends and/or in term breaks. The timing Im sure of the Garma Festival takes many factors into account when deciding on a suitable time. Not only did they get it wrong as Alan James points out they did not acknowledge the important work done during the Garma Festival through the Youth Forum that engaged youth from many places in challenging activities that were not only educational but activities that could not be duplicated in the many isolated places that they belong to. Helen who is the self professed expert on things "Homeland" still has to visit here to actually face the educators that she has unethically maligned for some years now! If she had of been up this way her facts might have been a little better informed!
