I saw the doco on abc2 last night as well. Great stuff

Taking that as a guide Mr Hirst had better ideas than practical talent. If the critics jumped on too early and have reconsidered maybe dont see themselves in error if they bag his painting as oppossed to his ideas. Ideas which they have previously lauded. ie He has a great mind and no talent. we were right!

After seeing “Who the !#$%^ is Jackson Pollack” I think this could be true. All reputation.

At least Hirst hasn’t toured as a travelling exhibition and then sold at the end of it as was shown on the doco last bight.

Great timing: 90 minute documentary on the contemporary art bubble (by Ben Lewis) on ABC2 last nite….he notes that Sotheby’s sold $1.2bn of contemp. art just before the bubble burst, but had $1bn in “guarantees”, i.e. pictures they’d buy themselves if they didn’t sell at auction.

Maybe Hirst is now ready to go into advertising, as most artists do when they grow up.
