"...the chair has the power to stop the clock so the negotiations can continue into the small hours..."

Somehow this just says it all about the disconnect between our political processes and those operating in the natural world, which is the nub of the problem at Copenhagen.

Note Greenpeace are the financially independent global NGO. WWF are global but most compromised by Govt and industry grant dollars. Friends of the Earth International are also likely to be a 3rd significant global voice - especially via Europe and USA, and also financially independent (I know they have an affliate in Chile and Indonesia and no doubt other places.)

Also noteworthy is a Think Tank here funded by a shopping centre mogul - no one in big media comments on that source of funding - with a poll that people in Australia 'don't really care that much about the issue anymore'. (Because it was all an insincere ALP Big Union wedge to defeat Work Choices?)

And according to chameleon thespian and oxygen thief Bob Carr we should just go nuclear anyway (so Macquarie Bank can invest?): Never mind the merits just be sure to run interference on The Greens starting to get significant media traction yesterday with their alternative legislative package.

You know, why worry about a real solutions based package that skewers special interests and promotes the public interest when we've got our big party backsides to look after first? Public interest never worried Bob Carr on forest woodchipping for 20 years, Mega Tip waste volumes, water and river degradation, escalating land clearing rates, Homebush Bay dioxin, Botany Bay degradation, repeal of the 1979 Planning laws, expansion of coal mines, tollway proliferation. But he's 'reliable' on nukes.

Also he's got this big bridge he wants you to buy.

"bold words will be undermined behind closed doors as our negotiators try to get a series of special provisions”. In summary “we should not expect Australia to play a leading role”

Sounds about right. Look for Australia to push a forest preservation clause so we can pay a token amount for PNG to not be logged and therefore claim many carbon offsets.

I for one am very excited about Clive Hamilton being the correspondant. A man who definately won't let any general backdown or failure be sugarcoated by fluffy language.

Let's just hope he doesn't commit any self-harm when it all turns into a farce.
