Reminds me of the GOP 'Road to Recovery' economic plan earlier this year:

1. Lower Taxes and Wasteful Spending
2. ???????????
3. Profit!

Well subject to impartiality let's hope the system works and it's picked up. Also let's see an Opposition response to Alan here just in case he's been caught up in the defacto lynching that is the Malcontents and their echo chamber this week, as good as he really is. After all, that's democracy too.

The only problem with the Liberals suggestion of a PBO, based on bitter experience, is that they'd keep control over appointments with the executive, and, as a result, politicise it, and use it like theu use Commissions of Inquiry, to produce papers with the results pre-ordained.
Also, as it was the one good idea which would be popular as well with the electorate, I imagine that the government might just nick it from them and introduce it, maybe as a pre-election announcement next year. I'm sure Lindsay Tanner wouldn't be averse to the idea of adding another string to his bow.
