This is so much BS. The Howard Govt went on a spending spree in every facet of government. They used our money on a grand scale to promote themselves; they used our money to kill people in other countries who were no threat to their neighbours, let alone us; they spent our money to increase government, but only for the betterment of their own arses, and now they scream in 'righteous indignation' at the excesses of the current government. Lindsay Tanner gave many examples of this in his National Press Club Address prior to the 2007 election. One that has remained with me, is the 9 person increase in the staff members for NP Senator Ron Boswell - he was not a shadow minister, it was just to help him and his party to be re-elected!
This nonsense of theirs is an insult to the intelligence of anyone whose memory goes back further than they'd like? I may be on a pension, but I'm far from being 'brain dead'?

I didn't see the presser, but how is the "economic growth" argument relevant to the claim to reduce govt expenditure to specified percentage figure (i.e. 24 or 25%)?

If the economy grows and expenditure is not cut then won't spending still be at the same figure?

I hope this will be pointed out.
